Tevivona Ayien

Research Officer
Tevivona Ayien is a medical practitioner with a strong focus on environmental health, chemical waste management, and pollution-related disease burdens. Her work examines how hazardous chemicals, industrial emissions, and improperly managed waste streams affect human health, ecosystems, and health systems, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. She engages with issues such as toxic exposure, air and water contamination, and the downstream impacts of pollution on non-communicable diseases, occupational health, and community wellbeing. Alongside technical and health-focused work, she has participated in policy and governance dialogues on environmental protection and public health, including engagement within United Nations processes such as the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA). She advocates for evidence-based regulation of chemical waste, stronger pollution control frameworks, and health-centered environmental policies. A central pillar of her work is elevating African perspectives in global environmental health discussions, ensuring that communities most affected by pollution are visible in decision-making spaces and that complex scientific and health risks are translated into clear, actionable policy insights.
